What does a Virtual Assistant actually do

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has had to find new ways to work. Virtual assistants have been around for a long time but the need to work from home has now put VA’s in the spotlight.

So, what does a VA really do?

Firstly, although the term ‘Virtual assistant’ or ‘VA’ is commonly used, a more appropriate term would be ‘Virtual professional’. This is because VA’s can come from different industries with different skills, qualifications and experience and they often have specialist fields that they operate in. This mean that VA’s aren’t glorified administrative assistants; they are professionals/experts in their subject area. So for example, my background in law means that I am probably the best fit for anyone needing contract work, proofreading of complex documents, business start up support and tender applications. Someone in the medical profession needing a VA would probably bypass me for a medical VA.

Virtual assistants take on a range of duties. There is probably nothing that a VA can’t help with. We think of virtual assistants typing away at a computer and completing administrative tasks but VA’s undertake so many different duties. Some VA’s will run your social media (more commonly known as a ‘social media manager’). Some clients use their virtual assistant for household management, this may include duties like arranging suppliers (cleaners etc), finding the perfect birthday gifts or ensuring that the family fleet is taxed and insured.

The point is, whatever you do not like doing, do not have the time to do or cannot do well, there is a virtual assistant out there with the skills to take care of it for you. Whether you are starting a new business and are overwhelmed with the process because you simply don’t have the time to cut through the red tape, or you are a busy corporate whose work/life imbalance means that your family life and free time has taken a back seat because your days off are consumed with personal administration, these are all reasons to enlist the help of a VA.

Think that you might need a VA? I would love to have a conversation with you to discuss how Ascelva could make your life easier.

Kindest regards

Celestine
